Welcome to Galicia Holiday Rentals and the village of Castrotañe where our beautiful holiday homes are located.
Summer 2015
This site has been created to give those looking for somewhere to holiday in Galicia a more complete picture of Castrotañe and the surrounding area, as well as providing some pictorial information about our holiday homes.
Set in the heart of the beautiful, timeless region of the Ribeira Sacra in the southern central part of Galicia, Castrotañe is a tiny hamlet and there are three homes available for your holiday, the latest of which was added in 2015, and is a two bedroom apartment. The homes can be rented separately, or in any combination, thus providing accomodation for between two and 14 people.
Castrotañe is situated in South Lugo province, in the south east of Galicia. We are on one of the lesser trodden Caminos de Santiago - the Winter Route or "La Ruta de Invierno" - in tranquil and very beautiful countryside. Although very peaceful, we are also really close to more lively places. For example, within 7kms we have all the facilities that you will require for your holiday. There are at least three swimming pools and two river beaches within 10 kms, as well as a PGA standard golf course and health spa. During the winter, Manzaneda, our very own ski centre, (also open 12 months of the year for outdoor activities) is about a 90 minute drive from the village. Restaurants abound and our `local´ is within 2kms. Supermarkets, a hospital, Police, railway station and museums are situated in Monforte de Lemos, our nearest big town which is about 7kms away.
Further afield, Santiago de Compostela, Ourense, Pontevedra and Lugo are all fabulous cities to visit and explore. Walk the ancient walls of Lugo, enjoy the thermal baths in Ourense or follow in the foosteps of the pilgrims and pay a visit to the world renowned cathedral and ancient city of Santiago. All are within an hour and a half´s drive of the village.
The coastal regions of Galicia offer a huge variety of experiences, and the interior mountains and hills are some of the most beautiful places anywhere in the world. The Ribeira Sacra is a region steeped in wine making and history, with the two main rivers of the region, the Miño and the Sil, forming focal points for much touristic activity. The Ribeira Sacra has it own wine denominaton and the wine museum in Monforte de Lemos, where the annual testing is undertaken, is well worth a visit.
Galicia has a wealth of history stretching back to earliest known man .......... and everything else from then `til now! Music and art are very important and each council has a range of attractions all year round.
A perfect place for a get-away-from-it-all holiday!
